Vineyards
Our oldest vineyards in Almahue date back to 1956, initially identified as the Merlot variety. However, several decades ago, a French expert discovered that they were actually of the extinct Carmenere variety. This allows us to assert that we have some of the oldest and highest-quality Carmenere vines in the world.
Located 90 km southwest of Santiago, in the Peumo area, our vineyards are in a privileged sector of the Almahue Valley. Due to their proximity to the Pacific Ocean, the climate is Mediterranean with coastal influence. This, along with the effect of the Cachapoal River, results in cloudy mornings with moderate temperatures and quite cold nights. As a result, a milder microclimate with a significant temperature difference between day and night during the summer is achieved, leading to a slower and more prolonged ripening of tannins and greater aroma concentration.
The absence of rain during the harvest months allows us to wait for the optimal harvest time, with good grape health, minimizing the application of phytosanitary products (or pesticides).
